greg1878 Posted 18 December , 2023 Share Posted 18 December , 2023 Good evening, I would appreciate any help and further details about Lt Edward George Herbert Caradoc Williams who was a 5 victory 'Ace' serving with 48 Squadron and I believe flying a Bristol Fighter. I have found very little about him apart from brief details that he was born in Holywell Denbighshire in 1895. I have found two MIC that appear to show he started off as a B Williams, Pte 1127 Royal Welsh Fusiliers, this is then cross referenced with the MIC in his true name. I have a couple of census and his cremation details in 1975 but I cannot find anything else. So if anyone can add anymore details of his service or how I can find his combat reports it would be a great help, I used to use Paul Ballie the researcher but it appears he has retired. I could not find a book on 48 Squadron but if there is one out there I would be keen to read up on it. A photo would be a real find to bring his trio of medals to life:) Thanks in advance. Tawhiri Posted 18 December , 2023 Share Posted 18 December , 2023 His AIR 76 officer's personal record is available online at the National Archives, as a free download once you've registered an account. https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D8242144 No sign of a record of his original commissioning in the Gazette,
Tawhiri Posted 18 December , 2023 Share Posted 18 December , 2023 According to the medal index card for Bert Williams, he was commissioned on 10 December 1915, which then leads to this commissioning on that date recorded in the Gazette of 15 December 1915. https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/29403/supplement/12542 And during his brief stay with 55 Squadron he seems to have been involved in at least one landing accident on 16 July 1917, according to the airhistory.org files.
