Mark Hone Posted 16 December , 2023 Share Posted 16 December , 2023 (edited) I recently moved to North Wales and frequently drive past Bodelwyddan Castle, site of a significant Great War training area and scene of the 'Kinmel Park Camp Riots' in 1919. The Trust which used to run the Castle and grounds opened some reconstructed trenches in 2017 and I remember seeing signage on the remains of a few of the original practice trenches from Kinmel Training Camp when I visited a few years before that. Unfortunately the Castle, which used to house the reserve collection of the National Portrait Gallery, closed in 2019 after the local council stopped the Trust's grant. The Castle went up for sale and was eventually bought by the company who already ran a hotel on part of the site. There was talk of reopening the castle and its grounds to visitors but things seem to have gone a bit quiet since then. Does anyone have any up to date information on the fate of the trenches there?
