Dust Jacket Collector Posted 15 December , 2023 Share Posted 15 December , 2023 I see Rupert Brooke’s ‘Death Penny’, which was sent to his mother, has just sold at Spink’s for £21,000. Hope it went to a good home but I’m surprised it wasn’t already in a National collection.

The plaque shows the form of his name as used by the Admiralty. [See p. 350 of Len Sellers magazine 'R.N.D.' issue No.5, June 1998] It is also the way his name was written on his ID disc. horatio2 Posted 15 December , 2023 Share Posted 15 December , 2023 (edited) Unfortunately the Admiralty was inconsistent. His ADM 339 RND record shows him as Rupert Chawner and (incorrectly) as Rupert Chaucer. His ADM 337 RNVR record shows just Rupert . His medals (1914 Star + 2) were listed in the RN Roll as Rupert C.but the 1914 Star Roll just shows R.. CWGC records him as Rupert Chawner.
