Andy B Posted 8 December , 2023 Share Posted 8 December , 2023 Hello I wondered if anybody could help me with any background information to a graffiti inscription I recorded in Alstonefield Church, Staffordshire. The inscription reads as follows: POTENTIAL AIR- GUNNER FB 1917 A.C.I I am assuming FB are the persons initials. Am I right in thinking that A.C.I. might stand for Army Council Instruction ? Could this be someone in training or recently recruited ? Any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks.
Admin kenf48 Posted 8 December , 2023 Admin Share Posted 8 December , 2023 Welcome to the GWF The Vickers FB 5 was an aeroplane flown in the war, but retired by 1916. It was known as the 'Gunbus' https://military-historian.squarespace.com/blog/2018/5/15/tools-of-war-vickers-fb5-gunbus
sdparker Posted 8 December , 2023 Share Posted 8 December , 2023 I think AC 1 might be a rank for Aircraftman 1st class.
Admin kenf48 Posted 8 December , 2023 Admin Share Posted 8 December , 2023 You could browse this list unfortunately just short of 42 000 surnames "B' http://www.airhistory.org.uk/rfc/people_index.html
