Medaille Militaire

My Great Uncle, Walter Ives Born 1880 served with the American Field Service with the French for 3 years as a Driver and Sous Chef in SSU 32.. Susequently, he was a 1st Lt with the US Army Ambulance Service. I have framed medals the Croix de Guerre and the Medaille de Militaire but am unable to read the citations due to fading of the ink. I can't find record of his receiving the Medals with AFS, hence it might have been with the USAAS. Any help in tracking down the citations would be appreciated.
