Remembered Today:

Soldiers nicknames for places

Hi. New to this group and wondering if anyone can help. I’m transcribing my grandfathers war memoirs which I’ve just discovered in a couple of old exercise books. They were written in retrospect in the 1960s. He served as a driver/gunner and despatch runner (Don.R) in the Arras & Cambrai area from late 1916 - 1918. He was with the RFA attached to the 56th London Territorial Division, 280th Brigade. His recall for place names is very good but I’m completely stumped by one as he describes it being called ‘Dogknees’ by the troops as that was the nearest they could come to pronouncing it. Having exhausted my search capabilities I just wondered if anyone has come across it?
Thanks
