The case of Sjt Fred Smith, West Yorkshire Regiment, was one I submitted.

His grave is known, so hopefully it won't be too long before his commemoration is moved to Leeds (Beckett Street) Cemetery.

If you send Terry the grave register with Frederick Smiths entry is would be very helpful. All too often I see a soldier remembered on a headstone and not actually buried there. The register will prove it for you.

Is this a regular thing they do?

Most of these new additions are from the 'In From The Cold Project', some of these names were accepted by I.F.C.P. 3 years ago but only passed by the M.O.D. recently.

I’m sorry, I have too laugh at the above statement.
as I’m still waiting on a couple of cases, which involves an unknown in Belgium and adding a number to Thiepval

these were submitted in 2017

Tom is correct.

Headstones are not evidence of burial. The burial register is required before CWGC can start to verify the grave.

Yes, this is already done. The relevant page from the cemetery register was included in the original submission.
The grave is listed for assessment as to the suitability of the commemmoration. As the stone is in good condition, and the name is clear, it may be that no further action is needed before moving his place of commemoration from the UK Book of Remembrance to cemetery where he is buried.

Cheers,

Nigel

Patience old skin, it all takes time. I have lads accepted by I.F.C.P. over 3 years and still await the M.O.D. rubber stamp.

The grave verification process takes a while, and there's a sizeable backlog. I think it also depends on the cooperation of the relevant authority.
