Hello Forum. 
 

Looking for the different variants and versions of Officers Cuff Insignia.  And shoulder insignia during the Great War period. 
 

I’ve noticed differences but how many different variants was there? And why?

The cuff rank was formed from ‘drab’ (brownish khaki) worsted herringbone lace and embroidered crowns, plus stars based upon the Star of the Order of the Bath (aka Bath Star).  They were a largely standard pattern but not worn by the Guards (horse and foot) or general officers.

The shoulder rank could be formed by either the same embroidered worsted stars and crowns, or metal versions that you can read about here:
