Chasemuseum Posted 14 November , 2023 Share Posted 14 November , 2023 Siam (Thailand) did send a contingent to the Western Front, but they did not include any infantry and as far as I am aware they did not take any rifles with them. Logistically it would have been difficult as their mauser fired a cartridge that was unique to Siam.
Steve1871 Posted 14 November , 2023 Share Posted 14 November , 2023 Fascinating tidbit there Ross! Where is a good source for me to look up Siam’s involvement in Western Front? The Forum is always a treasure hunt for new aspects of the war, just have to keep looking
Chasemuseum Posted 14 November , 2023 Share Posted 14 November , 2023 A good source. Not easy. wiki is a start https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siam_in_World_War_I https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siamese_Expeditionary_Forces There is a WW1 display at the national palace museum in Bangkok. Its not very big and when I had the opportunity to go there (about 25 years ago) photography was strictly prohibited. A great pity as some of the enlarged photos on display wee fascinating. Cheers
