Clodagh2 Posted 12 November , 2023 Share Posted 12 November , 2023 Hi all, Would love some help with this. The picture below was featured in Irish Life magazine in July 1917. I have been trying to find the approx. date and location of when this picture was taken. Those in the picture Sgt. Robert Downie was awarded his VC for action on 23.10.1916. Hatt RSM MC had been awarded his MC by 01.01.1917. CSM J. Whelan was killed in action 16.06.1916. Smithwick G.S. [sic] became a major on 01.09.1915. There is also a L/Cpl Kearney in the sixth row. A descendant of George Kearney 5598 contacted me. His relative arrived in France on 03.05.1915 and died of wounds on 25.05.1915. He believes the person in the picture is his ancestor. I am not certain because he was not a part of the original expeditionary force in 1914. The shape of the building is quite unique, and may be distinctive to a particular country or region. That may be a clue regarding location. Thanks in advance.
