Remembered Today:

1st Bn Bedfords at Achiet

Hi all,

I'm currently doing some research into some of the officers who served with 1st Bn. Bedfords in 1918. In late August of that year, they attacked the German trenches in Bucquoy & Achiet le Petit. Two of the officers I'm looking at specifically were buried in the area (both KIA 23 August) and later buried in Adanac. Having a look at other casualties that day, it seems most others were buried in Achiet German Cemetery and later moved after the armistice to Achiet le Grand Com Cem Ext. Some were then moved to Adanac after the armistice as well.

Why not keep them all together? Is it just that they ran out of room at Achiet? Probably seems like a stupid question, but given the unavailablity of exhumation and concentration records for Adanac it's something I'm trying to figure out.

For extra info, the two officers I'm researching are Lieutenants Arnholz & Eaton

Thanks !

You can find those reports here:

Or is it something else that you need?

Sadly it seems like the burial returns sheet for my 2 chaps isn’t amongst the files from the file share

It looks like these documents might be lost. The GRRF form for Arnholz clearly mentions "Exhumations":
https://www.cwgc.org/find-records/find-war-dead/casualty-details/182823/ronald-henry-arnholz/#&gid=1&pid=2

Did you ask CWGC if they have something more?
