David Ellis Posted 2 November , 2023 Share Posted 2 November , 2023 Good evening fellow researchers.......Can anyone help with tacking down the above please, dated 10/9/1919. J17064 Able Seaman Nelson Higginson verdict given on his service record as 'Found Drowned'. He was serving aboard HMSubmarine E42 when he drowned on 1/9/1919 in Sheerness. I have been to the PRO Kew to view E42 Log(books) for this period, under ADM73/1675,76,77. that cover May, June and July 1919....then the trail goes cold as the Logs for subsequent months are missing. The local newspaper report, on the inquest, tells of AB Higginson (a strong swimmer) disobeyed orders that prohibited swimming from the submarine by swimming, on his own? I/we would be interested to read the official version of the incident contained in the above document. Thank you in advance for any help you are able to offer. NB: prior to transferring to submarines, Higginson served aboard HMS Inconsistent at the Battle of Jutland.
RNCVR Posted 2 November , 2023 Share Posted 2 November , 2023 Think you are referring to HMS INCONSTANT at Jutland.

In my haste to post my request for information, I wanted to add a postscript acknowledging his involvement in that most well known of WW1 naval engagements. Thank you again David
