Remembered Today:

Duke of Wellington II

Finally reaching the end of current research into ships served on by the ancestors. I am struggling to find anything about this one, maybe I’m not looking in the right place. Both my G Grandfather and his brother served on it from 1902 to 1903.

Many thanks

She was an old (1852) first-rate, wooden ship-of-the line. When your relatives were on her books whe was an accommodation ship at Portsmouth. She was scrapped after her people were moved into the new Portsmouth Barracks in 1903. She had a long service life   -   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Duke_of_Wellington_(1852)

The sufffix "II" merely indicates a sub-division of the ship's pay and admin office.

DUKE OF WELLINGTON and DUKE OF WELLINGTON II are the same ship. As stated, the suffix "II" (there is no prefix) is just 'a number on a pay ofice door'. For example, all stokers may have been handled by D o W II.
