Quadey Posted 1 November , 2023 Share Posted 1 November , 2023 Hi everyone, I am currently writing a small piece about a local soldier who died on 12th November 1917. I visited his grave last year at Ypres Reservoir Cemetery and I plan to honour him at his home town Memorial on Remembrance Sunday this year. The only part I am not happy with comes from the 2/4th East Lancashire Rgt War Diary entry for the 11th November 1917. It basically says the battalion had marched from Ouderdom to barrack at Ypres and that during this manoeuvre they suffered 3 casualties from an enemy H.V. Gun. Can anybody please enlighten me as to what an H.V. Gun was? I have attached the snippet from the War Diary. Thank you in advance for any help with this. Admin RussT Posted 1 November , 2023 Admin Share Posted 1 November , 2023 I believe HV stands for High Velocity. If you search the Forum for "high velocity gun" you get plenty of "hits", which I assume might provide further details. Russ
