Surname looks like Nicholson to me, which leads to the MiC for this officer, Octavius Henry Lothian Nicholson, First Army Lieutenant Colonel, (landed in France as a Captain in the West Yorkshire Regiment).

There are also quite a few MiD cards in the National Archive catalogue as a Staff Officer (as O H L Nicholson), going through Captain to Major to Lieutenant Colonel.

He finished his Army Career as a Major-General. The National Portrait Galley has a photograph of him here https://www.npg.org.uk/collections/search/person/mp142772/octavius-henry-lothian-nicholson

Post War he would command the Kings Own Royal Regiment and the regimental museum has a picture of him - he apparently died while on leave http://www.kingsownmuseum.com/ko0013-70.htm

Cheers,
Peter
