Sadly, it is very hard to find anything about this guy!

His obituary in the "Kölner Zeitung" on 24. Juli 1918, see: https://zeitpunkt.nrw/ulbbn/periodical/zoom/9427451?query=Leverkus

"Statt jeder besonderen Anzeige.

Am 19. Juli starb den Heldentod fürs Vaterland in seinem 29. Lebensjahre unser lieber Sohn; Bruder, Schwager und Onkel

Erich Leverkus

Leutnant der Res. im Kürassier-

Regt. Nr. 8, kommandiert zu einer

Flieger-Ersatzabteilung

Inhaber des Eisernen Kreuzes 2. Klasse.

Wiesbaden, den 22. Juli 1918

Otto Leverkus

Augusta Leverkus geb. Schumacher

Dr. C. Otto Leverkus

Hans Leverkus.

Die Beisetzung in Wiesbaden findet am Samstag den 27. Juli,

nachmittags 3 Uhr, von der Kapelle des alten Friedhofes,

Platterstraße 13 aus statt.

----------------------------

He was born on 11 June 1890 in Berlin.

On the very same day pilot Gefr. Amandus Wittig (also FEA 7) died in or near Braunschweig (Brunswick) too.

So, we have the opportunity that either two airplanes collided OR one airplane with 2 pilots crashed.

Maybe a start for further findings?

Addendum: The other obituray (see link) is published by PALATIA, a "Burschenschaft", an organisation of students who "carried colours". And it was a "duelling fraternity". Leverkus died in a hospital after his crash, according to this obituary.

He was buried next to his brother who died in 1915. See:

Leutnant der Reserve Erich Leverkus.

Entered Kürassier-Regiment Nr. 8 as a Kriegsfreiwilliger (volunteer) and was commissioned from the rank of Vizewachtmeister to Leutnant d.R in 1915 (his final rank). He served in the 4th field squadron of his regiment and then on the staff of the 16. Division. He only transferred to flying duties in 1918, dying the same year.

Regards

Glenn
