Remembered Today:

100 Squadron: Where was it based on 26 February 1918?

I have read somewhere that 100 Squadron did not move to the Independent Force area until March 1918, but the original graves of the 5 men killed in an accidental bomb explosion on 26 February 1918 were in the Bezoilles-sur-Meuse French Military Cemetery, in the Vosges. Does anyone know on which airfield 100 Squadron was based on that night, please? Also, who was the CO at that date?

Thanks

Mike

Hi

Major W J Tempest DSO MC was the CO from December 1917 to June 1918 and I think that at the time that you are asking about they may have been based at OCHEY.

Many thanks, Steve. Ochey makes more sense. The CO wrote to the mother of the observer killed in the explosion. The IWM has a copy of the letter in their Lives of the FWW section, without the writer's name.

Thanks Graeme.

I'm just reading the very interesting history of Major Tempest (Wikipedia!).
