Kate Wills Posted 14 April , 2005 Share Posted 14 April , 2005 The 7th battalion of the Royal Welch Fusiliers had a goat for a mascot, and they probably were not the only ones. Perhaps that yellow printing (third from right, middle row) might give a clue! Have you tried zooming in on the bass drum? It may well be decorated with the name of the unit. HERITAGE PLUS Posted 14 April , 2005 Share Posted 14 April , 2005 The band instrumentation is in the brass band forma. This means that the band must be of either a TF or Service battalion/unit. Kates comment on the goat mascot is definately the lead to follow. Dave
Desmond7 Posted 14 April , 2005 Share Posted 14 April , 2005 Slap me if I'm wrong .. but surely it's a matter of keying your grandad's name into the MICs and coming up with the relevant regiment/unit? Des
HERITAGE PLUS Posted 16 April , 2005 Share Posted 16 April , 2005 Assuming that the David Havard named in yrllow on the photo is your grandad. There are five men of that name listed on the MICs. http://www.documentsonline.nationalarchive...=1&mediaarray=*
Muerrisch Posted 17 April , 2005 Share Posted 17 April , 2005 If the unit is RWF the goat is not the "mascot". Perish the thought, wash your mouth out. Known as The Goat, or the Royal Goat. Supplied from the Royal Herd by the Sovereign to the regular battalions, and t'others scrounged an animal one way or another. Mascot indeed!!!!!!!!!!!!!
