stripeyman Posted 24 September , 2023 Share Posted 24 September , 2023 I don't know if this has been seen before, it is available on eBay for a considerable sum of money $170 + and another + for postage... Seller notes; SPAD, SPA25 from Escadrille 53. Anyone knows where this came down ?
Tawhiri Posted 26 September , 2023 Share Posted 26 September , 2023 There are several threads discussing the same photo on the Aerodrome, where it is identified as a Spad XIII of Escadrille Spa 150 that crashed into the La Savoureuse river on 22 March 1918 following an engine failure while taking off from Chaux airfield near Belfort, where the squadron was based at the time. The pilot was Lieutenant Maurice Chavastelle. http://www.theaerodrome.com/forum/showthread.php?t=60379 https://www.theaerodrome.com/forum/showthread.php?t=61601
stripeyman Posted 27 September , 2023 Author Share Posted 27 September , 2023 Thank you for the information, however Belfort is a tad too far to go to take a comparison photo....
