His last team was in 1915 the New York Giants. He signed up in 1917 and when to war with the famous 77th Division. "The Lost Battalion" His seniors all where killed or wounded. So Grant decided to go for search to the Lost Battalion, after four days a shell killed him on 5 October 1918. He was the first professional baseball player that was killed in WW1.
