He is dressed in a typical Imperial Yeomanry uniform with the Mills Equipment Co cotton web bandolier commonly seen towards the end of the war until replaced by the 1903 leather Bandolier Equipment. Unfortunately no insignia is visible but his home town of Pontypridd gives us a strong clue of Glamorgan Imperial Yeomanry. His drab serge jacket is again a typical yeomanry type (one of several, this one distinguished by low set breast pockets), so all told I’m confident that he’s not a mounted infantryman. geraint Posted 17 September , 2023 Share Posted 17 September , 2023 In 1908, were they known as the Glamorgan Light Dragoons? There's a Pontypridd folksong that refers to the poet enlisting in the light dragoons due to having been beaten by another in matters of love! (Like joining the Foreign Legion.) The 1908 date would date that song. Or were dragoons in existence prior to 1908? (Apologies not wanting to highjack the thread,).
max7474 Posted 17 September , 2023 Author Share Posted 17 September , 2023 No I am afraid they were not. Not an authoritative source but accurate all the same https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glamorgan_Yeomanry
geraint Posted 17 September , 2023 Share Posted 17 September , 2023 Thanks for that Max. The song is far earlier and probably refers to light horse whether yeoman, dragoon or any other permutation.
