He joined the 53rd (YS) Rifle Bridgade around his 18th birthday, post war he joined the Royal Fusiliers. Deemed to have enlisted 8-5-1918 Called up for service 8-6-1918 Rifle Brigade 53rd Posted Rifleman 8-6-1918 (?) Rifle Brigade 52nd Posted 18-6-1918 Retained in the service under A(rmy) O(rder) ?? 28-1-1919 Cancelled ????????? 28-2-1919 Discharged Rifleman 17-2-1919 Under re-enlistment in the 'Royal Fusiliers' under Army Order 4 of 1919 for a Pension of Two Years. More likely it reads "for a period of two years" and would be in keeping with the short enlistments of one and two years on offer to keep the army anywhere near the strength it needed to be even in peacetime.
