AOK4 Posted 15 September , 2023 Share Posted 15 September , 2023 If they are from the same plane, then the lower rank is always the pilot and the higher rank the observer. The pilot was considered just like in a car as the servant of the main person, the observer. I couldn't find any details about how and where the crew was lost. This site adds another level.

jth Posted 17 December , 2023 Share Posted 17 December , 2023 (edited) Lt.z.S.(P) Adolf Laue was the pilot and Flzg.Ob.Mtr.(O) Karl Paetau was the observer. The Navy was more progressive than the Army at that time. Every man could be an observer in the Navy. Both were at SFS Varna from August 1916 and former at SFS Köslin. Both attended a bomb throwing training at Warnemünde on March 1916. On 7th November the crew Paetau-Laue departed the base at 6:50 in the morning with Friedrichshafen 33h #812 together with Friedrichshafen 33e #530 (Müller-Polte) for reconnaissance and attack of the Russian harbor at Sulina. They reached Sulina at 8:45 and dropped 10 5kg bombs on the facilities and the ships located in the harbor. On the way back to the base 530 lost contact to 812. 812 had severe issues and had to land several time but could start again some times. It seems that they finally have been forced down due to the issues and could not start again. jth Posted 17 December , 2023 Share Posted 17 December , 2023 Hi S.B., all of the mentioned Bulgarian were trained in Germany. I have some details to their training in Germany but none to the later service in the Bulgarian air service. KR Alex
