delta Posted 18 August Share Posted 18 August The Tank Museum are publishing a second edition of Trevor Pidgeon's superb reference work about the first tank actions on the Somme (15 and 16 Sep 1916). Trevor wrote and self published this wonderful book in 1995 and it has been out of print for many years - when one of the original copies do appear for sale, it often cost well over three figures. When Trevor's widow Marion died, she gave the copyright of the text to the Tank Museum. Earlier this year, it was agreed that the book should be republished - not as a straight reprint but as a second edition with amendments to Trevor's original text made where new information has come to light The new edition, which will be launched on 15 Sep this year, will be of a similar format to the original -i.e. a hard back, large page (A4+) book, It will contain almost `150 monochrome images, mainly of which were not in the original edition, and two set of colour plates showing the remaining Mark I tank and associated "relics" which are at Bovington, Modern aerial images of the battlefield are also included. The second edition will be published as a single volume - the accompanying large scale maps, each annotated by Trevor showing the locations of the main objectives, units and (where known) the route taken by the tanks, will be in a protective cardboard case which will also protect the cloth covered, hardback volume. The book will only be available through the Tank Museum shop - the price is yet to be announced but I understand it will be under £100. Copes will be available by Christmas and, if you are interested in pre-ordering the book, you can use this link to notify the Museum Staff : https://tankmuseum.org/tanks-at-flers-interest-list Stephen Pope
aengland Posted 22 August Share Posted 22 August This is good news.... I have a copy of the original set, and it was ground breaking research. Would seriously consider the updated version.
