David Seymour Posted 13 August Share Posted 13 August Reading the minutes of a student Junior Common Room for Oct 1914 I see that the members decided to take 'War and Peace' (not, presumably, Tolstoy's work) and another periodical which, in the handwriting of the secretary, looks like 'War Coy' but that doesn't seem a likely title. So, how many periodicals with 'war' in the title emerged at the beginning of the war?
David Seymour Posted 14 August Author Share Posted 14 August (edited) 'The War Coy' turns out to be 'The War Cry', the Salvation Army publication. 'War and Peace' was a politics magazine, published between 1913 and 1918 by the Garton Foundation, which studied international relations. There is a data set on First World War publications here, at the University of Reading,: https://researchdata.reading.ac.uk/46/ See also the ODNB article on Sir Richard Charles Garton. The Sept 1915 issue of 'War and Peace' is available here: https://archive.org/details/warpeace2202unse David Edited 14 August by David Seymour
