Hello,

The other day when i was metaldetecting in a field near Ypres i found those 2 unknown pieces. Anyone happends to know what they are?

The first piece is like a copper threaded ring on an iron piece. I found this with a lot of metal pieces.

The second piece i found is this. First i taught it was a bullet shell but it closed on each side.

The piece with threads looks like a percussion tube from the base of a shell case.

That worked indeed.

The first pic shows the bottom part of a British HE fuze (100 or 101 IIRC), the part hanging under the fuze inside the shell (to detonate the explosives inside the shell). The messing part is the adapter to fit the iron gaine (I believe that's the word). After exploding, the iron part is completely destroyed. See:

The second pic shows a detonater from inside a shrapnell fuze N° 80. The purle-ish part on this drawing:

That all makes perfect sense.  Well spotted Jan.

Thanx for all the support, now i know the history of the pieces.

Yesterday I also found those 2 pieces, the first one is like a circular piece with a hole in the middle.

The second piece i found is prob not from ww1, its like a copper nut with 3 holes on the side.

Arne

The images in the thread disappeared during a recent upgrade - after the advice I posted. I will try to locate them and update the thread but it could take some time.

I have looked at the broken links and checked our stored files. The links are broken at source and the images were not being stored on our system. Consequently I am unable to restore them. I suggest you contact the member by pm to enquire further.
