The commander of the Vermessungs abteilung 27 gets a number of mentions for its work in Palestine during the war

But as yet I have not found the details on this officer?

He commanded one the last groups of Germans to escape following the retreat from Palestine 

And gets a number of mentions in

"A provisional guide to German military topographic map series of Ottoman Asia in the First World War"

Any ideas on his first name or any other Bio details on him?

I should think your man is Oberleutnant d.R. Dr. ing., Diplom Ingenieur Walther Hinrichs, (25 June 1882-18 June 1864)  born in London, a Regierungs Bauführer (government construction superintendent) by profession. As an assistant at the Berlin museum, he was active in mapping and excavating in Mesopotamia before the war. Following WW1 he rose to become a senior diplomat.

A reserve infantry officer commissioned into Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 132 on 21 April 1908,promoted to Oberleutnant d.R. on 22 March 1915 and to Hauptmann d.R. on 24 February 1918.

The document mentions some 5 officers and 160 men, clearly thats not all in that unit, as most had around two officers and 20 men

those members who are known most captured during the retreat in Sept-Oct 1918
