Simon Parkin Posted 6 August , 2023 Share Posted 6 August , 2023 This photo includes my Great Uncle who lived in Co Durham. Does anyone recognise the uniforms and cap badges as I’m trying to identify the regiment?
tankengine888 Posted 6 August , 2023 Share Posted 6 August , 2023 Hello and welcome to the forum. I myself cannot distinguish the insignia, however this appears to date to around the 1920s [early?], per the Corporals on the left and back wearing 14-18 ribbons. I'll hand the talking stick to the next fellow. Zidane.
charlie2 Posted 6 August , 2023 Share Posted 6 August , 2023 The capbadge looks like 14/20th King‘s Hussars which would make the photo 1922 or later. Charlie
CorporalPunishment Posted 7 August , 2023 Share Posted 7 August , 2023 I would put the photo down as being no earlier than 1930 due to the cap badges. Pete.
max7474 Posted 7 August , 2023 Share Posted 7 August , 2023 (edited) 14th Hussars wore the 'cartwheel' cap badge from 1915 but dropped this for the smaller one. Post amalgamation (circa 1926 according to the regtl history) the 14th/20th reverted to the eagle under regimental arrangements which is likely to be the badge in pic 2 with the FR on it's chest. The eagle had been worn in Victorian times instead of the large oval badge in pic 4. In 1931 official approval was given for the badge in post 3 to be worn. The fact the eagle is being worn as collars may help date it. Edited 7 August , 2023 by max7474
