Good evening,

Help needed please, the title says it all, does any one have (or know where I can trace) a photo of the above pilot?

He died on the 4th Feb 1916 after crashing in BE 2C 2091 on the 31st of Jan.

Very many thanks in anticipation.

Regards

ajsmith,

Very many thanks for your prompt response.

The odds are that must be my man  -  how many Penn Gaskell's can there be?

One thing, could you please advise what SDGW is? (I feel I should know it, but it escapes me at the moment)

Again many thanks

Best Regards

A search of the Great Britain, Royal Aero Club Aviators’ Certificates, 1910-1950 collection on Ancestry brings up his name, and it appears that a copy of the photograph that would have been taken for his certificate is available there if you have full access to Ancestry. I unfortunately no longer do, so I can't tell you anymore.

Many thanks for this, unfortunately I'm also no longer on Ancestry - but I believe they sometimes have an 'open weekend' where non-members have access to their details, usually a bank holiday weekend.

So I will keeping an eye open for the next one.

Many thanks

Just a general comment - my local library has access to Ancestry and Find My Past; you can book a slot to go online at no cost so may be worth investigating your local library.
