Hello all, can anyone shed on light on this? I've found it whilst clearing out my late mum's house. My dad served did serve in the RAOC.

Many Thanks,

It appears to have started out life as a French M1874 "Gras" bayonet, but looks to have been drastically shortened, deliberately blunted and chromed later in life, possibly for drill or parade use?

French Model 1874 Gras Bayonet, St. Etienne, April 1883 ...

Large numbers of Gras bayonets were altered into fire irons when sold off; there are several types.  Could this be a poker?

On spine of blade could be the maker and date when it was produced as Gras1874, from the B prefix on crossguard it was serialed with Gras 1874 rifle made in Chatellerault.
