Dawn Rae Posted 31 July , 2023 Share Posted 31 July , 2023 Hi My great grandfather served in the RAMC. It is thought that he was listed as one of the many soldiers that lost their lives in the sinking of Transylvania but in fact he survived. According to my grandfather he was told his father had perished but he then came home in April of 1919. I am trying to confirm my grandfather's memories. Is there a list of soldiers who lost their lives and where would I be able to find it? I have a subscription to find my past. Thank you for your help, Dawn
Admin RussT Posted 31 July , 2023 Admin Share Posted 31 July , 2023 Welcome to the Forum - I have moved your post to this sub-Forum. Not sure if this link might help .... WRECK WRAK EPAVE WRACK PECIO (wrecksite.eu) Use the Forum search facility for the word Transylvania - there are some previous threads - one might give you some clues. Admin RussT Posted 31 July , 2023 Admin Share Posted 31 July , 2023 You could also search for your GGF on CWGC - if he perished, then he would be commemorated. Russ
brianmorris547 Posted 1 August , 2023 Share Posted 1 August , 2023 Dawn You can access the British Newspaper Library via FMP and there are plenty of reports in May/June 1917. Use Transylvania as the keyword. You may find one which names survivors. I tried to get into the Times digital library via my Lancashire Libraries card but it seem that access is no longer available. II will try and find out why. Brian
