His record shows that he was born in Croydon, Surrey, and at the time of his enlistment (22nd October 1914) he was working as an architect and surveyor.

Assistant to Messrs Henman & Cooper (William Henman (1846-1917) & Thomas Cooper (b. 1847)) 1903, and in War Office Architects' Department from 1904, including a posting to Bermuda. Professional qualifications: LRIBA 27 Feb 1911: proposed by C Henman, W Henman, L W Ridge. 
Personal details: Son of C Henman. Nephew of W Henman. 
Killed in action.

His record shows that after enlisting he quickly found his niche and rose through the ranks thus:-

This is probably explained by the CWGC entry which gives 
“husband of Mabel Henman (nee Heathcote), of The Cottage, Neale's Avenue, Fairfield, Sydney, New South Wales.”

The original schedule of burials shows slightly different details to those currently recorded by the CWGC ; ie. D of W, 27 July 1915
