One of the best personal descriptions of 3rd Ypres is contained in Some Desperate Glory by Edwin Campion Vaughan. (In my opinion anyway!)

Accounts of the rather chaotic 2nd Ypres are less common than those for 3rd Ypres. I would suggest Gas! by J.L Williams and R. James Steel, and particularly Trial by Gas by George Cassar. The maps in Cassar's book are the best of the bunch. Two older books, The Gas Attacks, Ypres 1915 by John Lee and Magnificent But Not War by John Dixon also deserve a mention.

I found The Salient by Alan Palmer quite useful for a broader overview of all the actions in the Ypres Salient during the war,
