skilpad Posted 22 July , 2023 Share Posted 22 July , 2023 My grandfather, Stephanus Fourie, wrote a memoir which includes extensive accounts of his service as a scout in the mounted forces in East Africa under Gen Van Deventer in 1916. He was involved in the engagements at Lake Chala, Kahe, Lolkisale and Kondoa Irangi and like hundreds of his comrades was laid low by malaria (and hunger). It is available now through Amazon, in Kindle or paperback. "Broekskeur: My Wild Ride Through War & Pestilence in Africa". My heatfelt thanks to members of this forum who offered help and advice while I was editing the memoir and trying to place my grandad's accounts in the broader context of the war.
