Ratcliff Memorial Cross, East London.

The Ratcliff Memorial Cross sits in St James Garden on Butcher Row in what was Ratcliff but is generally known today as Limehouse. The original parish church of St James was demolished after suffering considerable damage during WW2 and the site turned into St James Garden.

It is a memorial that has seen dratic changes in the area from buildings and infrustructure to industry and demographics.

The pictures I've uploaded were taken last week on my phone so not of the best quality but the deterioration of the names can be seen.

If any forum member has any serviceman they're researching that has a Ratcliff/Limehouse/Stepney connection that may possibly relate to this memorial it would be great to know. As of yet I cannot find any online transcription of the names although I have discovered that the original parish records are with the London Metropoliton Archives in Clerkenwell.
