Service Number Enquiry?

Hi All

Hope you are all well!

I picked up these tags from an antique shop... like you do! cheap enough I thought they will add to my collection and see if I can find who he is?

I assume the 7 digit number is WW2? yet can`t find anything on the usual FWR or Fold3, now I am used to the old FWR but now its all changed and under Ancestry.

A quick google of WW2 no.s brings up a site: Understanding World War II Army service numbers - Family Tree (family-tree.co.uk)

which states: • South Staffordshire Regiment 4904001 - 4960000 unsure if this is correct?

Please can anyone confirm I am correct in thinking 7 digit numbers are more than likely WW2?

They do seem quite new so I wonder if Repro`s and new or just made up?

Thanks in advance! Andy

7 digits  were  the numbers issued to soldiers remaining/joining after 1921.

Thank you for that!

4916963 Allocated to a A/Sjt A.E. Richards previously posted missing  now POW captured 1940 so outside scope of GWF. (FMP WW2 collection)

4916968 Steed 7th Battalion wounded 1944

There are others which suggest Murdoch was in TA Battalion of the South Staffordshire

If anyone has further information suggest PM

Otherwise perhaps WW2 Talk  can help

Locking this as outside period unless Great War connection is discovered.
