Morning,

Can anyone post the War Diary for 9th Sherwoods on 19 August 1915 (Gallipoli).

I know its on Ancestry but not on TNA.

Researching 20340 Smith.

Many thanks,

Graeme

The War Diaries appear to be lost until July 1916, when the Division arrived in France from Egypt.  20340 George Henry Smith is named on Helles Memorial.

After the attack on 89h August, the battalion held the line prior to another attack on 21st.

I have added a photo of his name on Memorial.

Morning,

Many thanks for the replies. I did not realise the WD did not exist, I thought I'd just missed it. Many thanks.

Yes, I have his record, cheers,

Regards,

Graeme

You could download 33rd Brigade War Diaries from TNA as they mention them a few times. Also maps of area.  With all the chaos of the fighting, it is possible that he did not die on 19th although from memory we had 4 deaths that day and all on Helles Memorial.
