jim_davies Posted 10 April , 2005 Share Posted 10 April , 2005 I would be grateful if someone could explain the process of a NCO being "commissioned in the field" and how it would differ from a regular commission. Thanks, Jim
Blackblue Posted 10 April , 2005 Share Posted 10 April , 2005 Jim, 'Comissioned in the field' usually means a man was selected and commissioned whilst still attached to his unit on war service. Thus the man did not apply for a commission and did not go off to an officers training school prior to being commissioned. More or less a man was identified as suitable and promoted into the position which he took up then and there.....a similar chain of events to other promotions that did not see a move from the NCO and Officer Corps.
