Fattyowls Posted 30 June , 2023 Share Posted 30 June , 2023 My chum Jack Thorpe in Erquinghem-Lys has sent me two photos of what he describes as a railway chair recovered in the area. He was wondering if they can be identified as British, as the local historical community believe a spur was constructed to allow a railway gun to be positioned? As my knowledge of railway ironwork is zero I'm no use at all in the quest other than having access to the vast knowledge of this forum. I'm seeing Jack on Sunday so I can ask any supplementary questions if necessary, thanks in anticipation. Pete.
Knotty Posted 1 July , 2023 Share Posted 1 July , 2023 Hi Pete My old fella was on the permanent way for all his working life and I could have asked him if he was still with us😁. Does it have anything stamped on it? It looks similar to those produced by some of the regions at the turn of the century…could be a Southern Railways if it’s for standard gauge as they were the nearest😁
