Coldstreamer Posted 9 April , 2005 Share Posted 9 April , 2005 Hello Just got a QSA to a chap in the Coldstream Gds - 2469 Pte A Spencer On 18.12.1920 he re enlisted in to the Liverpool Regiment # 103056 Can any one tell me anything from the number ? My guess is that after his 11 yrs (on and off) in the Guards (discharges 1916) he joined the TA..? Cheers Ian
Ken Lees Posted 9 April , 2005 Share Posted 9 April , 2005 That doesn't look like a TF number to me. In 1917 the Territorial Force were allocated 6-digit numbers starting with 200001. As far as I am aware they were still using this method of numbering the TF in 1920. Regards, Ken
CROONAERT Posted 9 April , 2005 Share Posted 9 April , 2005 The post-1920 number block for the Liverpools was 3757001 to 3846000 (7 digits). This system of numbering was in use from the end of 1919 through to 1950, so that 6 digit number doesn't look like a Kings Regiment number from this period to me. Dave. Thanks for the info Ian <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Maybe adding to your confusion, but hopefully helping to solve the problem a little - the number you quoted is actually (post 1920) a RASC number. If he enlisted in the RASC, then later went into the Liverpools, the number would have gone with him. Dave.
Coldstreamer Posted 24 April , 2005 Author Share Posted 24 April , 2005 Hello Now that makes some sense. He left France in Nov 1914 to work on attachment at The Lancs Dynamo and Motor factory in trafford park - to have left (unwounded) during a time of great losses in the Guards - so he must have had some special skills.. could be have helped build tanks?
