This may of been asked before, in 1914 was there an age limit on signing up?

my gran has indicated that her dads cousin was underage when he joined up, was 22 classed as underage?

I would'nt have thought so.

19 was the age for going overseas to fight with the Army, reduced temporarily to 18yrs 6mths in 1918.

Sailors could serve at sea from the age of 16 (Midshipmen and Boys etc.).

There was NO AGE LIMIT for drummers, buglers, trumpeters and pipers. Mobilization Regs 1914 make it clear that the decision rested with the CO.
