Cap Badge Query

Kathryn Knight

Recommended Posts

Can anyone help me identify this cap badge? I think it is The Royal Scots Guard but I'm not sure. I don't know of anyone in my family who may have been in that though. It was in a box of trinkets that my grandmother had so I am trying to work out where it came from and who it might have belonged to.

Many thanks, Kathryn

Royal Scots? Or Scots Guards?

It is Scots Guards if from the WW1 era.  There had been a period when both Royal Scots and Scots Guards officers (but not men) wore forage cap badges that were virtually identical.  After some deliberation the Royal Scots adopted a more diamond shaped star as its badge, with less elaborate points, despite the fact that the Royal Scots had been wearing such a badge (based on the Star of the Order of the Thistle) for centuries.
