Although only his service record will give the full picture of his movement in WW2, the 2/6th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers having been absorbed by the 1/6th in 1918, was reformed as a duplicate battalion of the Rochdale based 1/6th in 1939 due to the Munich Crisis. At this point the TA across the country greatly expanded with the new duplicate battalions taking in new recruits as well as former regular & TA soldiers re joining. Senior NCO's from other units such as 1/6th would have been transferred in to help with formation & training etc. The TA was mobilised Aug/Sep 1939 so it is possible that even though he is listed in the household, he could have either been mobilised and awaiting posting at home or listed there but actually with his unit elsewhere. The 2/6th remained in the UK throughout WW2. The 1/5th & 1/6th LF were converted to units of the Royal Armoured Corps in 1941 so that may be a path to his final service in REME ?? As ever just speculation until the service record arrives.
