Skipman Posted 11 June , 2023 Share Posted 11 June , 2023 Found this entry for the 22nd September 1918 in the diary of the 7th Northamptonshire Regiment. Never seen anything even mildly amusing before, let alone a limerick? Mike
johntaylor Posted 11 June , 2023 Share Posted 11 June , 2023 This is quite extraordinary Mike - like you, I've never seen anything like it before. I wonder what was in the Adjutant's mind (assuming he wrote it), and what the CO made of it (assuming he read it). John

IPT Posted 11 June , 2023 Share Posted 11 June , 2023 There's a terrible smell, In Poelcappelle, The Germans are washing their socks. (Lt Col. E. Morecambe 1917)
sueburden Posted 13 June , 2023 Share Posted 13 June , 2023 When I retired I spent quite a long time deciphering and reading some of the 1/7th Royal Warks war diaries. The only mildly amusing part was an entry that said: Number (I cannot remember how many) callow youths sent back to base. It would have been amazing if the entries were typed, but none of them were. The limerick is worthy of the Wiper Times. Sue
