charlie2 Posted 8 June , 2023 Share Posted 8 June , 2023 I‘m obviously not the brightest pixie in the garden, can anyone help with the abbreviation S.S. - numbers 27 and 35 on the attached. Thanks Charlie
Admin DavidOwen Posted 8 June , 2023 Admin Share Posted 8 June , 2023 Cannot find the citations on TNA "Op cit" means "the work cited" so will refer to the earlier reference. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Op._cit. S.S. might mean "sub section"?

Knotty Posted 8 June , 2023 Share Posted 8 June , 2023 (edited) Hi Charlie Just having a read and not trying to “show off” but this has come up on the Forum before, see below Plenty of info. about, so I have checked through and come up with this:- a link to the SS 457 Formation of Prisoner of War Companies. Orders and Instructions. [Sep 1916, Feb 1917 and Feb 1918 versions of pamphlet], held by the AWM, and given the reference “AWM27 424/8 - [Treatment of Prisoners of War:] Formation of (German) Prisoners of War Companies - Orders and instructions (Feb 1917)” https://www.awm.gov.au/collection/C2798135 The pamphlet is dated 1 Feb 1918😁 Edited 8 June , 2023 by Knotty
