Red Gate Posted 21 May , 2023 Share Posted 21 May , 2023 (edited) I hope that someone is able to help me with this query please. There is a report in The Times dated 29 April 1921 concerning the divorce of Tryggve Gran, the Norwegian polar explorer and pioneer aviator who served with the RFC and RAF during WW1. In the report it states that on 20 September 1918 Gran was en route for Russia on board a troopship HMS Steve. Is that really the name of the ship? But if not, is anyone able, please, to tell me the correct name? Edited 21 May , 2023 by Red Gate
horatio2 Posted 21 May , 2023 Share Posted 21 May , 2023 Most likely SS STEPHEN which ran several re-supply/reinforcement voyages to N. Russia. E.g. the RAF 'ELOPE' Squadron formed for service at Archangel and embarked in SS STEPHEN on 21 September 1918 at Dundee, arriving st Archangel on 1 October. [See Damien Wright's "Churchill's Secret War with Lenin" pp.151/2.]
