Skipman Posted 7 May , 2023 Share Posted 7 May , 2023 (edited) Could someone point out the location where William Angus won his VC on the 12th June 1915. Attached a google earth screenshot and the location is there somwhere. Also attached a webpage which details the location but am having trouble following it. http://www.forvalour.com/location2.htm Mike Edited 7 May , 2023 by Skipman
WhiteStarLine Posted 8 May , 2023 Share Posted 8 May , 2023 Hi Mike, I think I could follow the instructions. I started off with a search on Rue du Calvaire as per the link below and I 'drove' along it on Street VIew. I could see a blue sign on the house saying Rue du Calvaire and the road quickly narrowed to a track as described. As I rounded a sharp right hand bend the embankment on the RHS flattened. I wasn't sure that the two trees described were still there but everything else tallied. The obvious risk with StreetView is you make what you see fit what you expect to see! Cheers, Bill https://www.google.com.au/maps/place/Rue+du+Calvaire,+62149+Givenchy-lès-la-Bassée,+France/@50.5333961,2.7594903,17z/data=!4m6!3m5!1s0x47dd25afd316a483:0x966d69d3e2f0f0dd!8m2!3d50.5321715!4d2.7587411!16s%2Fg%2F1tfv4dl2
Skipman Posted 8 May , 2023 Author Share Posted 8 May , 2023 Many thanks for taking the time to do that. I think I have the location now, or near enough. I don't see the shed, the two trees, or the gap to be honest but think the area is all overgrown. Close enough and thanks again. Mike
