Help required to find an IRC PoW record please.

Attached is a clip from a medal roll for John Rye (Cheshire Regiment). I am reasonably good at using IRC records, but I cannot find him for the life of me. He wasn't taken prisoner in 1914 by the way, and he served right through to 1919 in the same regiment and same number of 7959.

Rye 7959 was reported wounded in the Daily Casualty Lists of 21/6/15 and again 19/9/17. A sergeant in both.

As you are aware no doubt these lists generally appear about a month after actual wounding.

I could find no trace of a pow but have you tried the NLS Casualty lists for late 1917 and1918?

I wonder whether the pow notation in the roll should be against Rothwell, the line above?

In Daily Cas List 2/10/14, Rothwell was "unofficially  reported wounded and prisoner".

Just a thought?

Rye's MIC also notes POW   -   BillyH.

Rye's mic note was probably picked off the roll along with the other roll info.

I suspect you may be right Charlie.

I picked up the casualty list for him in the local newspaper for June 1915, but cannot find the one in September 1917. Was it definitely Sept '17?  (I presume you have FMP?  I only have Ancestry).

Unfortunately, I only got the one 'hit' using "7959 Rye Cheshire", as above - nothing for being reported as a PoW, nor a repatriation.

So none of us can find anything. Frustrating because we know there can be gaps in the reports accessible. However does start to look like an error...

Yes, I had found him myself. The straws are very thin though :)

I still think your suggestion that the pow note on the medal roll was for the man named above him is the best bet. I don't believe he was a pow.

He doesn‘t appear in the RC records either or I can‘t find him.
