trajan Posted 7 May , 2023 Share Posted 7 May , 2023 I guess many GWF members will know of this new cemetery area, which made the papers of the Turkish Daily News! https://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/new-cemetery-for-wwi-soldiers-to-be-built-in-france-182914 It was news to me though, but I was wondering if anyone knew of any planned or already in progress archaeological excavation on the route of this "new canal in the area linking the town of Compiegne to Aubencheul-au-Bac over 107 kilometers (66 miles)" and which "is expected to lead to the discovery of hundreds of new remains." trajan Posted 7 May , 2023 Author Share Posted 7 May , 2023 Thanks Marco, I was - as an archaeologist - wondering more about the practical matters here. E.g., geophysics can identify trench systems, and GPR has been used to identify individual graves in an active battlefield cemetery, i.e., burials done while battle was in progress and not properly recorded afterwards. So what archaeological team is involved in this project? Julian
