Remembered Today:

Clipstone Camp and J Hodson and Son

I believe that the Nottingham based contractor J Hodson and Son was the lead in the construction of Clipstone Camp.  They seem to have advertised extensively in the press for tradesmen during 1915 and 1916 to help them deliver the contract. But please does anyone know of other work on camps or aerodromes that this contractor was involved in?

The Builder journal for 1915 and 1916 has this contractor as responsible for a shed or sheds at Goldhanger and Rochford in Essex and at Castle Bromwich. I think these were all WW1 airfields and so the firm appears also to have built hangars or aircraft sheds for the Government.

Thank you for this informative too.  37 Squadron initially operated from three aerodromes, Rochford, Goldhanger and Stow Maries and it is good to have it confirmed that the first two were developed by Hodson.  Although it has not yet been possible to confirm that Stow Maries was also built by them, I suspect that there is a distinct possibility that it was.
